I’ve really enjoyed exploring the excellent portfolio of Ribbon Ridge Winery as part of my series bringing you the best wines from across Oregon. The last wine we tried from this winey was an aromatic white wine – the 2021 Ridgecrest Old Vine Pinot Gris produced & bottled by Ribbon Ridge Winery. Today, I’ll bring you the best pinot noir I’ve had from Ribbon Ridge Winery’s RR series and perhaps one of the best I’ve ever had from Oregon:

2003 RR Pinot Noir bottled by Chehalem, Inc. (Newberg, Oregon).

This wine is 100% pinot noir from Ridgecrest Vineyards in the Ribbon Ridge AVA. It comes in at 15.3% ABV.

The wine showed a dark ruby color. Black cherry, raspberry preserves, currant, mossy earth and oak all arrived on the alluring nose. Black cherry, raspberry preserves and currant brought a luxurious dark berry wave to the forefront of the palate followed by notes of mossy earth, vanilla and oak. The wine was medium-bodied and exhibited excellent length along with velvety tannins. This elegant wine should be enjoyed now as its at its peak. Pair it alongside grilled, double-cut Berkshire pork chops topped with a black cherry compote.
